The Bolkow 209 Monsun first flew in December 1967. It is a two seater with basic aerobatic capability and beautiful control harmonisation.
It is powered by a Lycoming engine of either 150 or 160 hp, giving it a cruising speed around 150 mph and range of 750 miles.
It is 21 feet 8 inches long, with a wing span of 27 feet 7 inches and gross weight of 1,800lb.The 209 is a full metal, low wing aircraft with standard aerobatic capabilities +6/-3.5G (now reduced to +4.4 / -2.2 allowing loops, rolls, clovers and Cubans.)
G-EFJD was operated satisfactorily from a 390 metre grass strip (respecting weight and wind) for several years and has been flown aerobatically, at night and in IMC in recent years, making multiple visits to the near continent, Norway and French alti-surfaces. It is very pleasant and hugely capable.
