Description

What to say?!

This is G-BSXT, a J5a Cub Cruiser - I've been told by *so* many people that the J5 is "even better than a J3".

I bought it a few years ago damaged after a landing accident - that accident was on its permit test flight!

It has a rebuilt O-200 fitted right before that test flight, metal prop, Trig 8.33 radio and transponder, disc brakes, a centre fuel tank and one wing tank (I believe STCs are available to add a second wing tank but it s been a while since I looked).

Currently it s disassembled and partially stripped in my garage. The wings have been removed and the fuselage has been media blasted. The engine was run and inhibited before removal.

The crash damage includes one of the wings which needs a new (wooden) spar, so a full rebuild, one set of struts, and a couple of bent fuselage tubes around the wing mount areas. In addition, having media blasted the fuselage some corrosion of the lower longerons was found so I had planned on replacing these too.

After the fuselage repairs the "quick" way to get this back in the air would be a replacement pair of wings - but many rebuild parts are available new for the existing wings!

With the O-200, stick and rudder, those exposed cylinders, tandem seating and a huge cabin the J5 has huge potential - more payload and space than a J3, with more power.

I've come to realise that I don t have the time to get this back together and give it the life it deserves. I bought it during covid/lockdown and made a start; now I own a Cessna 170b as well, my business is very busy, I have multiple car projects too and now with a child on top the Cub is bottom of a very long list!

If you d like to come view it I m in East Yorkshire.

I have quite a few detail photos of the strip down to aid with reassembly which you d be welcome to. The bench I built for the fuselage can go with it too - it s ridiculously strong, flat, and can be fully levelled.

I d love for it to go somewhere it ll get the work it needs and see it in the air again.

Hope to hear from you soon.
