The Groppo comes in two variants the XL (tricycle) and the Trail (tailwheel). Aside from their landing gear configurations, both models share the same fundamental design, aerodynamics, dimensions, and engine options.

This high-wing aircraft features an aluminium construction with constant chord wings and blunt tips. Each wing is supported by a single lift strut attached to the lower fuselage. The ailerons are piano-hinged, and plain flaps are positioned inboard. The fin and rudder are straight-edged and slightly swept, while the rectangular horizontal stabilisers are of cantilever design. A trim tab is incorporated into the port elevator. One of the standout features of the Groppo Trail is its quick and easy wing-folding mechanism. The wings can rotate 90 to align alongside the fuselage, allowing a single person to complete the process in as little as five minutes making it one of the simplest folding systems available.

The flat-sided fuselage is built around a welded chrome-molybdenum steel frame, skinned with riveted metal for durability. A composite cowling encloses the flat-four engine, which, in the case of G-CHZT, is a 100 hp Sauer S 2400 UL engine paired with a Hercules two-blade propeller. The tandem cockpit sits beneath the wing, with an integrated transparency in the leading edge to enhance the forward pilot s upward visibility. Access is provided via a wide, upward-hinged, glazed door on the starboard side. Additionally, a rear-view transparency is incorporated into the tapered fuselage fairing behind the cockpit.

The Groppo Trail features a fixed, steerable tailwheel undercarriage with main wheels mounted on cantilever aluminium spring legs. Ground handling is assisted by differential hydraulic brakes, and larger wheels are available for rough terrain operations.
