USAAF Serial Number 44-79649

Year of Manufacture 1944

Unit Codes 69 K

The engine is a brand new Continental O-200 with new Sensenich wooden propeller.

The aircraft is G-AIIH and is the oldest Piper Cub still on the British register.

The wings have been fully restored and ready to cover with new leading edges. The fuselage has been fully restored and replacement lower longerons welded in. The tubing and frame have been painted and ready for fabric covering.

Flying controls have been fully restored and ready for fabric too. All remaining steel work stripped de-corroded and epoxy primed. Aircraft will be about 75% original to the wartime spec.

There is a copy of the original factory serial numbers sheet and the fuselage and wing frames are numbers matching to the original issue.

The aircraft has proven history in the Battle of Nancy in 5th to 15th Sept 1944 in which the US 12 Corps defeated the German Panzer Corps. The battle lasted for 10 days and there are 10 photographs of the aircraft in a field outside the village of Vezelise on 11 sept 1944 being greeted by very enthusiastic locals. This is to the south of Nancy itself.

It is extremely rare to find photographic evidence that places an L4 in the scene of battle during WW2. This aircraft can firmly provide this evidence and photos of it place it at the scene of the Battle of Nancy, France during September 1944. It can be identified by its tail number , 44-79649.

The Piper L4 will always have a higher demand as it is an affordable aircraft to maintain and operate and is an entry model Warbird. They are popular as training aircraft for PPL and tail wheel conversion. This makes it very appealing to any business investor and not just an avid aviator.

This historic Piper L4 will be sold with a new LAA Permit to Fly.
