SHORT HISTORY OF WARBIRD VL VIIMA II / VI-17 / OH-VIF / DURING IT'S CAREER IN THE FINNISH AIR FORCE 11.10.1939 - 31.05.1960
1. Designed for basic training, as well for aerobatics and instrument flight training for Finnish Airforce.
2. Manufactured in Finnish State Aircraft Company in 1939.
3. First Maiden Flight in Tampere airfield 11.10.1939, pilot ltnt. Visap .
4. Delivered and ferried 18.10.1939 to Finnish Airforce Training School (FATS) in Kauhava.
5. 16.04.1940 forcelanding to forest in Kauhava, moderate damages.
6. Repaired and delivered back to FATS 11.07.1940 as airworthy.
7. 20.11.1941 delivered to Finnish Airforce Mechanics Training School for training object.
8. 26.05.1944 delivered to eastern front (war against Russia) to bombing scuadron PLE.LV 48 for instrument and communication flights.
9. 27.11.1944 flight back to Finnish Airforce Training Shool in Kauhava for flight training.
10. 22.09.1945 28.05.1946 overhaul.
11. 06.06.1946 02.07.1947 test flights in FAF Test Flight Center.
12. 02.07.1947 11.09.1947 test aircraft for glider towing purpose (Finnish Aviation Association).
13. 02.08.1947 11.09.1947 test flights in FAF test Flight Center.
14. 11.09.1949 08.03.1948 Fighter Scuadron HLeLv 31, for aerobatics training.
15. 08.03.1948 14.09.1949 overhaul.
16. 14.09.1949 14.02.1951 instrument and aerobatics trainer in FATS.
17. 14.02.1951 04.12.1951 Bomber Scuadron PLeLv 41 in pilots training.
18. 04.12.1951 30.12.1952 overhaul.
19. 19.01.1952 11.05.1955 basic trainer in FATS.
20. 11.05.1955 20.09.1956 overhaul.
21. 12.10.1956...02.02.1959 basic trainer in FATS.
22. 02.02.1959 17.03.1959 pilots trainer in FAF Communication Scuadron.
23. Sold 31.05.1960 in general auction to Esa Passila.
24. 1960 1961 made major inspection and required alternations to register it to Finnish Civil Aviation Register.
25. 29.06.1961 accepted inspection by Finnish Aviation Authorities for civil registration.
I listed above some of the important dates during VI-17 lifetime. I have saved complete documentation since it`s maiden flight to it`s so far last flight 17.07.2023. Document contains every actions as maintenances, repairs, flights, etc.
- Aircraft has been rebuilt completely in period 2001 2011. Painted original FAF colours and markings.
- Aircraft is airworthy, flown 33 hours since rebuild.
- Finnish Aviation Authority inspected and accepted certification of aiworthiness for VI-17 on 08.06.2011.
- Engine is original Bramo Siemens Halske Sh 14 A4. Serial nro 28472.
- Engine went through the major inspection and has run 33 hours after it. Works perfectly.
- Wooden propeller original Valmet propeller.
- Aircraft has been hangared always during it`s lifetime.
- VIIMA is fully aerobatic aircraft and is exellent for it. It`s stress coefficiens are + / - 6 Gs.
- VI-17 is located in my hangar in ORIP (EFOP) airfield, South Western Finland.
- Sale price is 95 000 , free on Orip airfield.
- Current registration category (experimental) doesn`t allow to fly it outside Finland. Therefore it must be taken apart and transported in a container or so. I have skilled team to help to do it, as well as to reassemble it back to airworthy condition. I have all needed technical and flight endorsements to lead and accept everything in Finland, Europe, Canada and USA.
