The Robin DR400, introduced in 1972 as an evolution of the DR300 series, features key enhancements, including a wider cabin at shoulder level and a forward-sliding canopy an innovation first seen on the Robin HR-1 in 1969, replacing traditional doors. The aircraft s signature cranked-wing design provides improved stability during cruising and safer stall characteristics. Additionally, the redesigned, elevated dashboard allows for easier instrument readability.

The primary distinction among DR400 variants lies in the engine. While the cabin remains consistent across models, lower-powered versions (up to 120hp) are classified as 2+2, accommodating two adults and two children (or three adults).
